CINDERELLA-ESQUE: HOW TO STYLE BLUES

Hello bud!

Sara here.

I was inspired to write today’s post because of this twitter post I saw the other day.

Let me show you what I mean…

BTW, none of the pieces that are mentioned in this article are sponsored or paying me to link.

Check out the DOLCE & GABBANA Taormina Pumps.

From first glance, I instantly thought, CINDERELLA!

I mean, I’m not wrong, right?!

Okay, okay, Cinderella had glass slippers, not blue lace.

But, come on now, the color scheme, the heart on the toe box, the heel. It’s literally Cinderella circa 1950.

Anyway, I took a look at the website, and they had a variety of all sorts of colors, gold, blush, rouge, black. ( I almost fainted)

These pumps are part of the “Devotion” project, with the spot light on the “Sacred Heart” which is an emblem for imagination and dedication. Nice!

So, this whole dreamy blue look got me thinking about blue color palate.

How do you pull off blue?

Let’s get to the deets!

Shades:

Blue is such a lovely color and each and every one of its shades are calm and fresh.

My favorite shade of blue that I find myself wearing quite often during the spring is a pale and soft blue. Pale blue sweaters, like this one, are my favorites! I love pairing them with some dark skinny jeans and silver shoes.

This shade of blue is also lovely, especially with sweaters!

Ask yourself:

+ Do I typically wear lighter shades of clothes or darker?

+ Do I like lighter shades or darker shades as tops? How about bottoms?

+ What type of pairing pieces do I like to wear with the statement piece. For example, the light blue sweater above would be my statement piece and the dark skinny jeans and silver shoes would be my pairing pieces. I normally like to go with opposites (light/dark or dark/light) I believe it creates a nice contrast, don’t you think?

Play around with the blues in your closet; shoes, belts, shirts, anything! Find the shade that stands out to you!

Top Tip! Grab some blue paint swatches and see which shades capture your attention! Pick the top 5 and style yourself based on those 5.

You can branch off from there!

You could also create an outfit with a variety of blues! You don’t have to stick with one certain shade!

Now, let’s get on to different ways to style blues!

And remember, make sure to iron your clothes be in tip top shape!

Look One: Odd One Out

This is one is pretty popular, mainly because it’s pretty simple.

You just pick one statement blue piece and wear it!

You can choose your statement piece to be any shade of blue! Lighter tones, softer tones, darker, or more vibrant tones. The options are endless!

There are also many ways to match the statement piece!

+ Match it with a bold color, such as bright red or dark green.

+ Pair with a deep tone: Think earthy tones, ruby tones, etc. I have been kinda obsessed with jewel tones lately. I’ll provide us with a detailed post on this stunning subject later. Dark and deep tones, like a maroon scarf would look terrific with a pale blue coat. Here is a lovely steel blue fine wool coat and a classy maroon scarf! Or try out some sage green!

+ Match it with a nude shade! Go for some nude pumps or a light coral colored blouse! Try incorporating some beige!

+ Be the shady lady: Pair the piece with shades, like black, white, and grey, for an instant sophisticated look!

Look Two: Classic Denim

Denim! A sturdy shade of blue!

Denim is ALL THE RAGE right now!

Why wouldn’t be? It’s rebellious, shows initiative, and it looks amazing!

My go-to’s are high waisted Levi’s denim! Super comfy, super cute.

Not to mention the denim jackets. Ahh!

Anyway, denim looks great with blues! Think, darker denim with lighter blue piece & lighter denim with darker blue piece.

This creates a nice contrast, a harmonious juxtaposition.

The navy blue flannel looks amazing with her straight leg denim jeans. not to mention the black leather boots make the outfit look 100%!

Accessories: Accessories can make a denim look go from 1 to 100. Yeah, they’re that good. Think boots, earring, and glasses (clear or sunglasses) Simplicity is key for this look! However, I look to make one certain accessory an eye catching one. Like some metallic boots, or bright colored scarf. Perhaps some eccentric earrings?

I have been seeing denim boots on the rise lately. They’re cute! Check these ones out here.

Look Three: Monochrome!

Monochrome.

You can read an in-depth post that I wrote about it, here.

Monochrome is when the majority of the outfit is one color. It can be one shade, or a variety of shades.

Talking about blue, look at the photo above. The lady on the left is going for different shades of blue monochrome look. It looks sleek and pretty professional. Take the cobalt blue pants for example, you could pair it also with a pale yellow blouse or a baby pink blouse (from Look One!)

The lady on the right is pulling off a single tone blue monochromatic look. People should be careful with this look, however, it could come off looking like a uniform. Make sure to slightly accessorize with some bold earrings or a colorful bag. Add some curves to your look with a belt or a cropped pants look!

Look Four: Implement Some Patterns & Textures!

This is a really fun and creative way to style blue.

Experiment with different shades, tones, patterns; it’s all up to you!

The look above has a bold blue, white, and grey damask pattern on her dress.

She accessorized with black suede heels, bold blue sunnies, and a cinnamon brown suede bag.

She also added a single color cobalt blue blazer to add some “authority” and sophistication to her elegant look.

The pattern plays an important role here because it adds depth to her outfit. Her dress is form-fitted, so a big blazer works nicely with it. Opposites attract, guys.

Quick comment on the cinnamon brown bag: Notice how it makes the outfit pop? It draws more attention to it; it creates more depth. It makes it stand out.

Love this look?

You can find the black suede heels here.

Here is an affordable pair of black suede heels. (They come in so many colors!!)

I found a similar bag to hers here. It’s Saint Laurent!

Here is an affordable brown suede bag.

Bold blue blazer can be found here.

Here is a money-friendly blue blazer option.

Similar sunglasses over here.

Here is a nice soft blue loose dress with little flower patterns. It’s very casual, yet alluring. The simplicity of the color and fabric complement the bishop sleeves. This summery dress would look amazing with some wedged sandals!

You could also implement different textures into your outfit. Lace sleeves, denim boots, cable-knit sweater, corduroy jacket, the options are limitless! This add more depth to your look.

The texture of the navy shirt is rough and sturdy. Plus, the sleeve make the outfit pop!!

Look Five: The Belle of the Ball

Simply stunning!

There’s something magical and eye-catching about a beautiful blue gown.

Cinderella’s fairy godmother knew her stuff!

It’s elegant, soft, charming, and powerful.

It’s pretty much why everyone stared at Cinderella once she entered the palace.

It’s a pop of color! It’s fresh!

All shades of blue look gorgeous as ball gowns or any type of dress. I personally like a pale blue!

Bold blue looks confident.

Light blue looks peaceful, elegant, and wise.

Dark blue is mysterious and captivating.

This is the color dress to make a hell of an entrance!

Now, what texture would you like the dress?

Is it flowy or fitted?

Glittery or sequens?

It can also be a simple blue dress. Still beautiful!

Personalize it as much as you want to fit your likes.

The dress pictures above is a semi-dark blue flowy dress that looks absolutely stunning pictures with the beach. The dress is so simple, but the beauty of the deep deep blue makes it look mysterious and elegant at the same time!

Here are some more blue dresses for inspiration:

So, Cinderella knew what she was doing with the color blue, after all.

There is just something that draws the eye to the color blue.

It’s peaceful & elegant, and anyone can pull it off!

It’s confident and sophisticated!

It’s beautiful!

Yeah! Monochromatic looks can seem daunting, but once you go for it, it's pretty simple + fun!
