MONOCHROME STYLING 101!

Hello!

Ever heard the term ‘monochrome’?

If you haven’t, it’s pretty much an outfit that consists on one color throughout, in style terminology. Think, Taylor Swift’s “Me!” music video.

That should ring a bell, haha.

Still unsure? Read on to find to find out more on what monochrome is and how to wear it!

What is Monochrome?

Okay! So, here is a visual example of monochrome.

It looks like this:

Monochrome! in deep crimson red

I think it’s all coming together, huh?

So, here, Daniil is wearing a deep crimson red suit. We see that same crimson color in his pants, his jacket, and even his sunglasses.

(Sunglasses at night, btw? Haha, they are key to an outfit sometimes)

I notice that he is wearing a white collard shirt underneath his jacket.

It’s still a monochrome outfit, though, because the majority of his outfit is that deep crimson red. Not only the majority, but the statement pieces (jacket & pants) consist of the same color.

How to Style Monochrome

Now that we know what monochrome is, let’s move on to how to wear it.

Single Color

That’s what mono chrome means, essentially.

You could explore all sorts of shades of the same color! It’s great!

So, you could wear a lime green jacket, and dark evergreen pants.

They are different shades of the same color.

Fabrics!

You can incorporate all types of fabric for your monochrome outfit. It doesn’t have to be all the same.

Texture is also key! A rough sweater with smooth & soft pants would really make you stand out! In a good way too!

For example, looking back at that green outfit, you could style evergreen corduroy pants with a smooth textured lime green jacket and an emerald wool sweater underneath.

How about some satin in the mix!!

Look how beautiful the glossy sage green jumpsuit looks next to the olive colored seine!

Add Monochrome Accessories

It doesn’t just have to be your major outfit pieces that could be monochrome, you could also throw in monochrome accessories, such as shoes, sunnies, of belts!

These outfits are stunning, don’t you think?

I love how they are both standing next to each with drastically different pieces.

The girl on the left’s monochrome accessories consist of her shoes & belt.

The girl on the right has monochrome shoes, but her belt is the polar opposite color, black. Her watch is also black. Still, her outfit is monochrome. I believe the black accessories really made the white stand out even more.

I like that touch, by the way. It makes her outfit stand out.

I feel like if the girl on the left made her belt metallic or white, I think it really would have made the outfit stand out even more. I am interested to hear your take on this.

Try Different Prints!

What’s great about monochrome is that it gives you the freedom of choosing how you want to wear your outfit!

Stripes?

Floral?

Paisley?

Gingham?

Plaid?

You got it!

Go ahead and experiment and try all sorts of prints and find that great outfit!

Why Should You Try Monochrome?

Okay, so we just learned about the deets on monochrome.

But you may ask yourself, why should I wear it?

Well, here are some alluring reasons on why I like to experiment with monochrome:

1. Monochrome is eye-catching.

There is something about someone wearing bold colors from head to toe that makes heads turn, am I right?

It’s unique. Most people would love to see all different shades and textures of a certain color all in one outfit.

So, if you want to turn heads at the next party you attend, consider a monochrome look; try all metallic!

2. It Creates a Slimming Effect!

One color elongates your physic for the illusion of a slimmer body!

3. It’s fun!

There is nothing boring about testing out different textures & shades to add interest to your outfit!

It also is a very creative way to express how you’re feeling on that typical day.

Feeling ecstatic? Go with some sunshine yellow, honey yellow, and gold!

How about mysterious? Dress in all black! Don’t forget to include some leather!

Feeling confident? Dress in bold reds & pinks! Add some red lipstick or red converse!

Wanna stand out, in the best way? Try some shiny blue!
