BEHOLD! JEWEL TONES & HOW TO PULL THEM OFF

Hey love!

Recently, I have been OBSESSED with jewel tones.

Think deep deep colors. I’ll go further in detail in this post.

These tones are elegant, mysterious, and they add pure concentrated BRILLIANCE to any look.

Jewel tones are perf for any month, but cold, cold days are, in my opinion, the greatest days to style some jewel tones.

I mean, a gloomy cloudy night in the city, those jewel tones will light up the streets!!

Here, enough of me talking, let’s get to that post!

BTW, none of the pieces that are mentioned in this article are sponsored or paying me to link.

Now, I don’t know about you, but when I think of jewel tones, I think of the Mad Hatter & Willy Wonka.

I mean, they’re probably the kings of jewel tones.

Side Note: Huh, they’re both played by Johnny Depp. Woo-hoo!

There are 6 main types of jewel tones:

JEWEL TONES:

+ Ruby Red

+ Citrine Yellow

+ Emerald Green

+ Topaz Blue (light blue)

+ Sapphire Blue (dark blue, navy, if you will)

+ Amethyst Purple

I know, right? Pretty!!

My favorite would be ruby red. Plus, emerald green. And sapphire blue. Ah, I can’t choose!

The fun part about jewel tones (thx Johnny Depp) is that they look even more amazing when you mix and match! Take a deep ruby red coat, emerald green turtleneck, and sapphire blue trousers. Throw in some gold jewelry and I am done. Perfect look for a night out!

Let’s go into detail about the 6 jewel tones, shall we?

Ruby Red:

A gorgeous, lusty color.

Truly stunning.

Just imagine, a long deep ruby red gown with a black fur coat.

Talk about the center of attraction!

Anyway, take a look at the color palate for ruby red.

It’s a great base color. It stands out.

It’s subdued enough for a quick run to the coffee shop, yet eye catching at the same time! (cognitive dissonance much, Sara?)

I fell in love with this ruby red trench coat, and I think you might too. It’s from Saks!

Here is a money friendly option too!

No, you don’t need to wear this ruby red color only as a coat, you can wear anything you want in this shade.

How about some ruby red boots?

A ruby red sweater?

A long & flowy ruby red skirt?

Pick and choose!

The look above displayed a ruby red blouse with dark flared jeans.

Jewel tones go great with dark colors. Dark colored pants and accessories help bolden the jewel tones.

Golden accessories, such as earrings or necklaces, are a great add-on to ruby red looks. They are both warm colors, so they compliment each other nicely.

Her flowy ruby red pants are the main attraction to the outfit! They are perfectly paired with a glittery top and light red sunglasses.

Red symbolizes courage, attention, & excitement!

What a perfect way to start your day!

Citrine Yellow:

A sweet, lavish color.

Lighter shades of citrine yellow look fun and lively during the spring and summer seasons.

Darker shades look more grand and warm during the fall and winter seasons.

I normally see citrine yellow worn as a dress or a scarf.

Good news is, this color is always in style!

Silver accessories and shoes help make this color pop out and help to not wash it out.

Brown is also a great color to pair this with. Think a brown handbag or boots! Amazing!

Any jewel tones that look good with this? Ruby red, amethyst purple, topaz blue, and emerald green are colors that look great when paired with citrine yellow.

This festive citrine yellow dress looks amazing with her ruby red pumps and suede brown handbag!

I found a similar dress of hers here! It’s stunning!

I found a similar bag to hers here. It’s Saint Laurent!

Here is an affordable brown suede bag.

Her citrine yellow dress matches nicely with her silver metallic boots! Add a deep emerald jacket and she’s good to go!

Emerald Green:

Emerald Green Palate 1

An envious, ambitious color.

Emerald green is such a fabulous color. I love a dark dark emerald green, it’s absolutely lovely!

Look at the first emerald green palate. This palate consists of more subdued shades of emerald green. It’s a bit more for the fall and winter seasons. It contrasts great with grey and gloomy weather.

The second emerald green palate is more brighter hued than the first one. This looks great year-wide. Spring, Summer, Fall, you name it!

Match this color with some gold or silver jewelry. Don’t be afraid to experiment with bold and lively colored jewelry as well. You got this!

For the first emerald green palate, colors like deep magenta, mustard yellow and royal purple are a perfect touch!

Emerald Green Palate 2

For the second emerald green palate, think pieces like silver, gold, floral fabrics, and bold prints. Colors like bright yellow, black, cobalt & navy blue, and bright purple look terrific when paired with this shade.

I like to style emerald green in dresses. Formal or informal, I think an emerald green dress really turns heads at any event.

Many people don’t go for that color, they tend to go with a color they’re more comfortable with, like black, red, or white.

Go big or go home!

Emerald green is something else when paired with jewelry.

This color necessitates accessories. It looks so elegant and sophisticated!

Take a look at the image above. She chose to work brown oval-framed sunnies (here are similar) and bold earrings. And, by the way, the blazer, so beautiful!

I found an affordable look-alike here.

Pair it with these similar slacks and these elegant black pumps! Don’t forget to add your favorite piece of jewelry. There you go! An upperclass outfit for under $120!! Steal!

Here is a luxurious green blazer from Brunello Cucinelli!

Accessories help this color pop and make it come together for a look anyone would envy.

Topaz Blue:

A soft, alluring color.

Topaz blue looks terrific with pretty much anything!

Gold and silver jewelry? Check!

Brown or black boots? Check!

Denim or trousers? Check!

My favorite shade of topaz blue would be a deep teal color!

It’s a very popular jewel tone!

This color is pretty much year-round, however I love this color as a wintery shade. It’s calming and warm. Not to mention, stunning!

Topaz blue can be worn as coats, pants, shoes, etc!

I love to style it as turtlenecks and sweaters! Match it with some grey plaid pants and simple black or white leather boots and you’re golden!

Hey, Cinderella is the queen of this shade! You can read my post on how to style blue here! See ya there, bud!

Sapphire Blue:

A sultry, velvety blue.

Blue is calm and shows confidence, while also looking humble.

Sapphire blue is also a terrific base color.

I love wearing sapphire blue as pants.

Pants such as dark denims or sapphire blue cigarette pants or trousers. I love!!

It’s simple and it matches pleasantly with my other pieces = which is what makes it a great base color.

Here is a sapphire blue trousers that I really liked the other day. These are simple, sleek, and they give you an elongated, taller look! Sounds good to me!

Bold and playful accessories, like the one shown above, pair perfectly with sapphire blue looks.

Here is a cute brooch from Gucci! It consists of a variety of other jewel tone pieces in it, such as emerald green and citrine yellow!

Make your sapphire blue outfit stand out with golden or silver jewelry. Make sure the piece has other bold colors within to create more depth and pigment to your look!

Be creative!

The photo above is a great sapphire blue base outfit. A colorful brooch, an emerald coat, or a ruby hat would be great add-on examples!

Amethyst Purple:

A bewitching, dreamy color.

Looks amazing during fall and winter months.

Hey, this is the color of the Willy Wonka’s coat! The one from the 70s!

It can be a quite perplexing color, in the best way.

It’s distinctive and full of life, especially when matched with other jewel tones, like a dark emerald green!

An amethyst purple piece is sure to stand out!

Pair it with bold accessories. Jewelry, glitter, shoes, anything that adds extra flair!

This beautiful lavender gown is terribly pretty!! Play on words there, haha!

The real magic with jewel tones appears when multiple colors are worn together. It’s bold, playful, and daring.

Don’t be afraid to go for it!

Play around with the different shades of each tone. Find which ones you like, and incorporate it into an outfit. Be simple, but daring!
