Rice Water. It’s all the rage.
Today’s post focuses on what rice water is, how to use it, and how to make it.
Let’s get on with the post, fellas!
————————
What is Rice Water?
Self explanatory. Water, from rice. Simple, huh? It’s awesome!
Rice water has been a beauty secret for AGES.
Rice water has been around for centuries, used primarily in ancient Asian countries.
What Can Rice Water Be Used for?
Pretty much anything!
Want longer & silkier hair? Rice Water!
Want smooth, young, baby-soft skin? Rice Water!
Allow me to go further in detail.
Yup, there’s more.
Hair Care:
+ Aids Damaged Hair: Rice water is perfect for those who have damaged hair (don’t we all?) The nutrients (primarily, inositol) help strengthen it!
+ Promotes Shiny & Healthy Hair: It can also be used for smooth & silky hair. I noticed a difference in the texture of my hair the DAY after I sprayed some rice water on. It was almost magical! I have reallyyy dry ends & rice water really helps moisturize them.
+ Helps hair growth: Crave Rapunzel’s long locks? (I BET she uses rice water!) VITAMINS found within the rice water help your hair not only grow longer, but stronger. Key, to healthy hair!
How to use it: You can either spray the rice water through your hair using a glass spray bottle, or you could rinse it with rice water after washing your hair in the shower.
Skin Care:
+ Cleans your skin: Need an extra cleanse without drawing out your skin’s moisture? Rice water is the way to go. Take a cotton pad and pour a bit of rice water onto it and swipe gently, all over your face. Don’t swipe downwards! It may cause premature wrinkles.
+ Facial Mist: This. Now this, is why I continuously use rice water. After using it, my family members notice that my skin is looking a lot clearer and it’s GLOWING! It can be used as a MIST & a TONER, for those interested. If you’re somehow still hesitant on incorporating rice water into your daily routine, this should be a game changer. I can’t stress this enough, guys. I love it!! I put it into a glass spray bottle (eliminate plastics!) and spray onto my face whenever I need a quick glow. I also make it routine to spray morning & night! Clear skin is a process necessitating consistency!
+ Dry Skin: Rice water is a great natural option to help fix dry skin. It also decreases chances of skin irritation thanks to its starchiness! Try this out by doing a patch test first (always patch test!) and spray onto your face twice a day for as long as it takes to clear up any redness or dryness. You got this!
Inside Beauty:
+Antioxidants + Enzymes: I love antioxidants. I try to incorporate them into my diet as much as I can (not too much thought!) Rice water’s antioxidants & enzymes helps the skin protect itself, maintain skin’s elasticity & collagen, helps you achieve a more bright and glowy look! It pretty much helps slow down the aging process! It truly is a youth elixir!
+ IT’S NATURAL: Key takeaway to this post. As much as possible, try to incorporate natural solutions into your life. Not everything will be natural, and that’s okay. Sometimes, natural = expensive. Not even sometimes, most of the times. But when it comes to rice water, it is normally considered very inexpensive. Especially the benefits that we reap from it! The benefits outweigh the costs, guys, am I right? So far, there isn’t a risk with using rice water. Just make sure to throw away expired rice water, that’s pretty much it. Do a patch test as well, just in case.
+ Drinking rice water: Make sure it’s fresh! Always. Drinking rice water is great for gut health, energy boosting, and working on your hair and skin health from the inside. I wouldn’t drink this everyday, because it’s pretty potent, in my opinion. I stick to once a week or once every two weeks.
Got the deets, now, how do we make it?
There are technically 2 ways to make rice water: fresh & fermented.
Let’s go into detail, shall we?
Fresh Rice Water:
This is good enough to last a week.
This is great for skin use and for drinking.
It’s what I did the first time I ever made rice water. Super quick, super simple.
What you need:
+ Uncooked Rice
+ Bowl
+ Water
+ Glass Jars or a sort of container for excess rice water
+ Glass spray bottle or spray bottle of your choice
How to make fresh rice water:
+ Take one cup of uncooked rice and quickly rinse it to get rid of any dirt & debris. Put the rice in a big bowl, preferably glass.
+ Take two to three cups of fresh water and pour it into the big bowl.
+ Let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. The longer, the more potent & powerful it is. I leave it for about an hour.
+ Make sure to stir it every 15-20 minutes.
+ Strain rice and pour the water into a different bowl to separate rice and the rice water.
+ Pour the rice water into a glass bottle and pour the excess into glass jars.
+ Use the rice to cook some quick and nutritious dinner! I love plain rice w/ cauliflower, broccoli, & sweet potatoes!
+ Gently shake the mix and store in refrigerator.
Fermented Rice Water
This can last for around 2 weeks.
Keep in mind, this smells funky.
This is great for hair use!
It is also great for skin (make rice water ice cubes!!) Strong & powerful wake up call in the mornin’!
What you need:
+ Uncooked Rice
+ Bowl
+ Water
+ Glass Jars or a sort of container for excess rice water
+ Glass spray bottle or spray bottle of your choice
How to make fermented rice water:
+ Take one cup of uncooked rice and quickly rinse it to get rid of any dirt & debris. Put the rice in a big bowl, preferably glass.
+ Take one cup of fresh water and pour it into the big bowl.
+ Let it sit for a day or two. I leave it for a day.
+ Gently shake the mix and store in refrigerator.

I don’t know about you, but I think rice water would be a terrific help to incorporate into my life.
What about you? What do you think rice water will help you with the most?
What will you do to maintain the results.
Don’t feel frustrated if your skin isn’t 100% clear the second day. It’s okay. It’ll work it’s magic. You just need to be consistent and optimistic!
Make sure to do a patch test first, see how your skin reacts, and if all goes well, continue to use it on you hair every time you wash it, spray a couple times throughout the day on your face and hair, and drink a little bit every once in a while (make sure it’s fresh!)
For even better results, go for organic rice, not instant rice, haha. I don’t even think you should be using instant rice for this.
Try it out & make sure to tell us how you like it down in the comments!
Tell us what you liked about it and if you have any, what you didn’t like about it!
Wonderful thanks to Cottonbro for the fabulous photo! <3
Don’t forget to Carpe Diem!
