This week, I realized I’ve been lacking with my fruit intake.

Veggie intake was pretty good this week, but fruit, eh, not so much.

I wanted to make this dreamy banana smoothie as a base and throw in some goodies to make it a bit healthier.

I got the base banana + peanut butter smoothie from All Recipes. I’ll lay out the recipe here, but you can find that specific website article, here.

Here is the base recipe for 1 serving

(yay, single life)

+ 1/2 banana (I like to use a whole banana for extra protein + it makes the smoothie a bit thicker, which I prefer)

+ 1 tablespoon milk (I prefer almond milk!)

+ 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (you can nix the pb is it’s not your fave, but I love pb, personally & we’ll get into the health benefits soon, promise 🙂 )

+ 1 teaspoon of honey (go organic, girl!)

+ a couple of ice (adds volume & chill)

My add-on goodies (totally optional)

+ a teaspoon of Greek Yogurt (get that extra protein)

+ sprinkle in the chia seeds!

+ a teaspoon of granola (homemade or organic are the best!)

+ a handful of berries (I sometimes add these for a pretty color + a boost of healthful antioxidants!)

So, what are the health benefits to this banana smoothie?

+ BANANAS: these babies contain essential nutrients that are optimal for your health. Think potassium, vitamin B6, and magnesium. They support heart health (thx potassium <3), helps with digestive health (great source of fiber), more filling, and contain a myriad of anti-oxidants!

+ PEANUT BUTTER: aside from being delicious, peanut butter is great, containing vitamin E, manganese, and vitamin B3. It’s a “good fat” that helps your immune system along with bone health. Also, heart health is a major, major plus.

+ HONEY: the loveliest sweetener is also medicinal, can you believe it!? Loaded with antioxidants and nutrients, honey is a great ingredient to incorporate for some sweetness + nutrition!

+ GREEK YOGURT: smoothie-wise, greek yogurt is wonderful at making the drink creamy & smooth. This gem is also loaded with beneficial nutrients (superr high in calcium), probiotics (aka healthy bacteria!), & protein!. It also boosts metabolism, checks on on gut health, and improves mental health (a crucial thing right now)

+ CHIA SEEDS: these popular seeds are packed with antioxidants, fiber, protein, & omega-3 fatty acids! They’re super easy to incorporate into your diet (salad, bread, drinks) and are so cute!

+ GRANOLA: now, I don’t mean the sugary cereal granola, those do more harm than good, I’m talking about organic and/or homemade granola. Granola, made typically from oats & nuts, provides you with fiber (& lots of it!), vitamin E & antioxidants (from the dried fruits & nuts). You can blend your granola in this banana smoothie or eat it by itself! Try adding some milk and make your own cereal!

+ BERRIES: if there’s one type of fruit I would choose to keep in my life, it would be, without a single doubt, berries. They’re delicious and so, so, seriously nutritious. I love dropping some berries into my tea and snacking on some while reading a good book. They are filled to the brim with antioxidants, fiber, vitamin C, minerals, & folate. They are also anti-inflammatory, lower cholesterol levels, great for your skin (!!) and protect from various illness if eaten habitually.

  13. Hello Sara! I hope you had a lovely Easter weekend and thank you so much for your comment on my site!

I loved this recipe, actually it is the smoothie I always make after training, but I think I should add a little more peanut butter to get this texture, it really looks like a dessert and it looks even better than mine haha! Sometimes I add a tablespoon of protein to boost it 🙂

And about the statue in my latest blog post, it is a design I found at Dali’s house in Cadaqués (close to Barcelona), it is a flower pot that belonged to her wife, Gala. I got obsessed with it but realized it was a really old piece and I found it at a market in Barcelona for 3 euros haha!

All the best and see you on the next post!
